Chicks Make The World Go 'Round

I did not expect this at ALL.  But, every year when we go to Tractor Supply to purchase dog food,etc...they have their Easter Chicks, Bunnies and Ducklings.  I always want to buy one (or more).

Finally, this year, hubby agreed to buy some chicks.  We ended up getting a few (which turned into eight!) that were for their eggs or meat;our main reason for buying the chicks (yeah, right, they were just so cute!) . We got two of the yellow chicks.  I wish I could tell you their "real name" but I just think/call them the Easter Chicks.  And, we purchased two brown chicks and four of the black & whites which supposedly lay medium to large eggs.

The first chicks we chose...

I call this one Toto (black)..he is the smallest and reminded me of the Wizard of Oz.

I learned the yellow chicks, which I love, turn white when grown and are used mainly for meat. The brown chicks that are in the middle..meat or eggs, but are adorable!
(I can't imagine eating any of them.) The black and white are mainly for eggs.  I have a feeling we will only be gathering eggs from all our chickens.

I already love them and I pet/hold them all each night. We are keeping them in our office with a heat lamp away from our German Shepherd Dog and Mini-Dachshunds who only want the chicks as McNuggets.  They could care less of anyone or anything else that stops by.

We plan on starting our coop this weekend.  I'll keep you all posted on our progress and what our plans are.  I feel like they will be getting a chicken condo instead of a "coop" ; )
